Wartagate.com - The South Korean entertainment agency ADOR has reportedly filed a lawsuit to prohibit all activities of the music group formerly known as NewJeans, now rebranded as NJZ. This legal action marks the latest development in the ongoing conflict between the agency and the group's members.
According to a report from Korea Times on Thursday, the lawsuit was submitted to the court on February 11, 2025. ADOR is seeking to ban NJZ from engaging in any musical activities, including songwriting, performances, and promotional events.
The agency's legal move expands its previous request to halt the group's commercial activities while maintaining ADOR's position as their official representative.
In response, NJZ expressed disappointment on social media, claiming that ADOR's lawsuit is an attempt to restrict their professional freedom.
"This is an effort to compromise our professional freedom," NJZ stated.
The group, consisting of Minji, Danielle, Hani, Haerin, and Hyein, emphasized that music is the core of their identity. They added, "The essence of NJZ lies in musical activities, and restricting that is equivalent to denying our very existence."
On the other hand, ADOR denied the allegations, stating that the lawsuit was unavoidable due to NJZ's continued music-related activities, including plans for international performances, despite the ongoing legal dispute.
"We are not trying to restrict their activities, but rather to remind them to adhere to the contractual agreements signed with ADOR," the agency explained in an official statement.
The first court hearing regarding this case is scheduled to take place on Friday, March 8, 2025. The outcome is expected to have significant implications for the group's future activities and their relationship with ADOR.
